Untitled – Pamhidzai Rinomhota
(approx. 1.5' x 2.5')
Pamidzai did her first pieces art in 2006. They had exceptionally large and dramatic borders. The scenes she painted were almost lost in the center. In 2009. when I was with Pamidzai I asked her about her border designs. She told me, “Designs are my favorite thing.” So I suggested to her that she do several pieces that left out scenes altogether, making them “borders only” paintings. This is one of her first.
Weya art has been in existence since 1987. As best I know, Pamidzai’s design paintings are the first pieces of Weya art that are nonrepresentational.
